Description

Nos 113 to 119 on Cedars Road are four large villas built in the mid 19th century. Each villa has three storeys and a basement, with three windows across the front. The buildings are constructed of yellowish brick and feature terracotta dressings, including moulded cill strings on the first and second floors, a moulded cornice, and brackets at the eaves of a low-pitched hipped slate roof with tall end chimneys. The sash windows are set in moulded architraves, with the first-floor windows being round and adorned with leafy patterns in the tympana above segment-headed windows. A similar pattern is found on the apron below the ground floor windows. Access to the villas is via eight steps leading to a six-panel door, which has sidelights and a wide rectangular fanlight, all within a prostyle porch that features a pierced screen above a round-arched opening and matching balcony panels above. It is noted that No 119 has lost its porch, and there are later one-storey links connecting Nos 113, 115, and 117.
