Description

These are a group of mid-19th century detached villas, located at 11, 14-18 Somerset Gardens. Each villa is two storeys high with a basement, and features five windows on the first floor and three on the ground floor. They have moderately pitched slate roofs with deep eaves soffits. The construction is multicoloured stock brick with a stuccoed basement. The first-floor windows are sash windows with round heads, set within moulded architraves and bracketed cills. The ground-floor windows are also sash windows with vertical bars, and are framed by moulded architraves and cornices. The front doors consist of two long panels. The door at No 11 has been altered and is topped with a plain rectangular fanlight, all set within a modified entablature surround. The villas have entrances with either four or eight steps, each with an ornamental cast iron handrail. Numbers 4 to 11 and 14 to 18 form a group.
