Description

A group of villas dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, located on Hyde Vale. The villas are arranged as Nos. 28 to 36 (even), with each having two storeys and a basement, and originally three windows. They feature low-pitched, hipped slate roofs with deep eaves, a soffit to the eaves, and paired brackets on the soffit of No. 30. The front facades are constructed of yellow stock brick, concealing underlying multicoloured brickwork. The buildings have slightly projecting angles and a central section, with a stucco band marking the first floor level.

Nos. 28 to 32 have gauged, flat brick arches over sash windows with glazing bars; some sash windows have been replaced and sit within segmental arched recesses on the first floor. The centre windows of these villas have moulded stucco architraves, a frieze, and a cornice. Ground floor windows have console bracketed cornices. Nos. 34 and 36 have moulded stucco architraves to all first-floor windows, with console bracketed cornices to the centre windows. Their ground floor windows are of three lights, each with an anthemion frieze and cornice above. All the windows are sash windows with glazing bars.

The doors include two-panel studded doors at Nos. 28 to 32, a six-panel door at No. 34, and a four-panel door at No. 36. Each door is set beneath a heavy, classical prostyle porch.

Nos. 4 to 36 (even) are designated as a group.
