Description

This is an early to mid-19th century terrace of ten houses, numbered 1 to 10, located on the south-east side of St Mary’s Walk. Each house is two storeys high with a basement, and originally featured two windows. The exterior is of stock brick with a stone-coped parapet. The basement is stuccoed with incised lines. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, each set within a gauged flat brick arch. The ground floor has long casement windows with transoms, and ornate cast iron balconies. Four steps, with a wrought iron handrail, lead to the front door, which consists of five panels set within a stucco surround, topped by a cornice and blocking course. The front of the houses is protected by cast or wrought iron area railings. Numbers 9 and 10 are facsimiles of earlier buildings, while the upper parts of numbers 7 and 8 have been rebuilt. Despite these alterations, all ten houses are included in the listing due to their group value.
