Description
140 and 142 Brixton Road is a tall pair of houses built in the early to mid-19th century. Each house has three storeys and a basement, with two windows on the front. They are constructed of stock brick and feature a stucco blocking course, although the cornice is missing. The basement and ground floor are banded and rusticated, creating voussoirs for the round-headed door and window openings. The sash windows have glazing bars and margin lights, with those on the upper floors set beneath flat gauged brick arches. Access to the doors is via three steps, which are complemented by elegant wrought iron railings. The doors themselves have three patterned panels, fluted quadrant pilasters, a cornice head, and a plain fanlight above.
