Description

Nos. 43-46 on Chiswell Street are terraced houses dating from 1774, as indicated by a plaque on the ground floor of no. 43. They were restored in 1988. The houses are built of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with stone detailing, and their roofs are obscured by a parapet. Each house has four storeys above a basement and features two windows. All windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads. The entrance, located in the right-hand bay of no. 43, is round-arched with stucco reveals, and the doorcase is deeply recessed with a cornice and fanlight. There are two ground-floor windows, a moulded stone storey band, and rainwater heads dated 1937 located between nos. 43 and 44 and between nos. 45 and 46. The entire group has undergone significant rebuilding.
