Description

11-17 Ripplevale Grove consists of linked villas built between 1839 and 1841, with later linking bays added in the late 19th or 20th century. The buildings are constructed from yellow stock bricks and feature hipped roofs made of Welsh slate, complete with projecting eaves and ridge tiles. Nos. 11 and 17 have brick stacks at the ends, while nos. 13 and 15 have central brick stacks. The layout follows a centre-hall entrance plan and the villas are two storeys high, each having three windows and a double-fronted design with one-bay links.

On the ground floor, there are gauged brick round-arched openings set in arched recesses. The doorways for nos. 11-15 are framed by architraves that include a cable moulding between two rectangular mouldings, with wreathed corner blocks; however, no. 15 lacks the wreaths. No. 17 features a possibly replacement moulded architrave. The doorways have cornice-heads, with six-panelled doors for nos. 11-15 and a four-panelled door for no. 17, all complemented by finely patterned fanlights for nos. 13-17. Notably, no. 13 has a panel above the doorway inscribed 'Hope Cottage'. The first floor features 6/6 sash windows with curved and radial glazing bars and margin lights, topped by gauged brick flat arches. The eaves are accentuated by a projecting cornice, and nos. 13-15 have full-height reveals instead of links.
