Description

Grove Cottage is a detached villa built between 1839 and 1841. The house is constructed of yellow stock bricks laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with a Welsh slate hipped roof featuring projecting eaves and brick end-stacks. It is arranged with a centre-hall entrance plan, and comprises two storeys and a basement. The three-window double-fronted facade presents a symmetrical appearance. A flight of steps leads to the entrance, which features Doric columns supporting a cornice head, a four-panelled door, and a decorative fanlight. A panel above the door is inscribed “Grove Cottage”. The ground floor windows are 6/6 sash windows with curved and radial glazing bars, margin lights, and gauged brick round arches. A stucco sill band runs along the first floor, where the 6/6 sash windows are set within gauged brick flat arches.
