Description

16A St Paul’s Place is a single house dating from 1836 to 1837. It is located in Islington and was formerly listed as part of St Paul’s Grove. The house is constructed of yellow brick laid in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing, and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high, with a basement, and is three bays wide.

The basement is partially stuccoed. Steps lead up to the central entrance, flanked by stucco pilasters that support an entablature above a panelled door and original glazed overlight. The ground-floor windows have round arches with gauged-brick heads and retain their original glazing bars. The first-floor windows are flat-arched, also with gauged-brick heads, and appear to have original glazing bars. A parapet runs along the top, with a gabled section on the north side, which suggests a possible refronting of an earlier building. There is a side chimney stack. It is included on the list for its contribution to group value.
