Description
Nos. 29 and 31 Southern Road are an early to mid-19th century pair of houses, each three storeys tall with a basement and two windows. The outer entrance bays are slightly set back, creating a recess on the central axis. The buildings are constructed of stock brick and feature a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The basement and ground floor have a stuccoed band. The sash windows, which have glazing bars (vertical only on the second floor), are topped with gauged flat brick arches. There are five steps leading up to half-glazed doors, which are framed by rectangular fanlights in stuccoed surrounds. These doors are set back behind round arches that have moulded architraves and impost blocks.
