Description
Sir John Woolaston's Almshouses are early 18th century buildings made of brown brick with red dressings and tiled roofs. The structure features long, single-storey wings on either side of a small two-storey central block, which has a parapet and an old tiled roof. The central block has two windows, a central door, and a round-headed niche on the first floor above a tablet that commemorates the foundation of the almshouses by Sir John Woolaston in 1658 and their rebuilding to double the number by Edward Pauncefort in 1722. Each almshouse has one window and one door beneath a modern tiled roof that is not in keeping with the original design. All openings are segment-headed. The buildings are noted for their historical significance and the central block. Nos 13 to 37 (odd) are part of a group.
