Description
This is an early 19th century pair of houses, located on the east side of Mare Street. They are each three storeys high with an attic and basement, and each has two windows. The houses have a slated mansard roof with dormers. Their construction is of stock brick with a stuccoed cornice and a stone-coped parapet. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars; those on the first floor have long lengths and are accompanied by ornamental cast iron balconies. The basement windows are segment-headed and recessed with gauged brickwork. A cill band runs along the first floor. The entrances feature six-pan doors with side pilasters, cornice heads, and plain fanlights. Arched steps lead to the basement areas, and shops built on the forecourts do not actually connect to the main houses.
