Description

This is an early 19th century house of three storeys and a basement, situated on Mare Street and extending five bays to Darnley Road. The house is constructed of stock brick with a stone cornice band and parapet coping. The elevation to Darnley Road features a pediment over the central three bays, containing a round panel. Gauged flat brick arches are used above the windows, some framing sash windows with glazing bars, and others enclosing blank panels. A cill band runs along the first floor. A central round-headed window is set within a wide, stuccoed round-arched recess. The house has a stuccoed plinth.

An extension has been added to the right-hand side, incorporating a plain door and a rectangular fanlight beneath a bracketed cornice hood. The Mare Street frontage has a wide, stuccoed round-arched recess framing the first and second-floor sash windows, the first floor being tripartite, all within moulded architraves. An impost string is positioned at the second floor level. The ground floor and basement feature a rounded bow with a frieze, cornice, and blocking course, complemented by three ground floor windows. A central basement entrance is flanked by modern casements.
