Description
Nos 18 to 21 Sanford Terrace and 38 and 40 Smalley Close form a late 18th century terrace. Each building has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with three windows. The roofs are slated mansards featuring dormers. The buildings are constructed of stock brick and have a stone-coped parapet. There are gauged flat red brick arches above the sash windows, which mostly have glazing bars and are set in stucco-lined reveals. The entrances feature six-panel doors with a cornice head and a patterned fanlight, positioned between fluted pilasters in round-arched recesses. On the first floor of No 21, there is a stone plaque that reads "SANFORD PLACE 1788". The terrace is currently undergoing restoration. Nos 9 to 21 Sanford Terrace and 26 to 40 Smalley Close are part of a group.
