Description
Nos. 19-22 Lind Street form a terrace built around 1830, situated well back from the street and preceding another terrace. The three-story buildings incorporate a semi-basement and attic, and are faced with cement rendering. The houses are paired, with a recessed strip dividing the terrace at its centre. The roof is a Mansard covered in slate, with two flat-roofed dormers. There is no cornice, but coping to the wall raises to cover the eaves. Each house has two windows to the first and second floors, one to the basement, and one to the ground floor. The second-floor windows are recessed two-light casements with glazing bars and narrow sides, set on a block sill that projects from a string course. The first-floor windows are original French windows set within shouldered architrave surrounds. Cast-iron balconies with Anthemion and Vitruvian scroll brackets are situated beneath the first-floor windows of each house, with a moulded string course below. The ground-floor windows are tripartite sash windows with intact glazing bars and moulded sills, set within elliptical arched recesses. The semi-basement features tripartite sash windows. Flights of seven steps lead to paired entrance doors, each of four moulded panels, flanked by Doric pilasters, and surmounted by a rectangular fanlight. A pediment sits above the entrance, supported by scrolled brackets. Nos. 5-22 form a group.
