Description
Nos 72 to 75 Fenchurch Street, including No 1 Lloyd's Avenue, is a large corner building dated 1900, constructed of Portland stone in a rich, modified classical style. The building stands three and four storeys high, plus two additional storeys in a slated roof. The ground storey features rusticated piers and an entablature, with tripartite arched doorways (one of which is blocked) and another corniced entrance. The first and second storeys are adorned with Corinthian pilasters and engaged columns. The second storey has single and paired windows with carved aprons. The attic facing Fenchurch Street includes very elaborate stone dormers, with additional dormers set further back along the long return. There is a pedimented south pavilion facing Lloyd's Avenue, which has a plain return made of gault brick. The rear elevation facing Northumberland Alley is irregular and of no particular interest.
