Description
The premises occupied by Lloyd's Bank, located at 865 Market Place, date from the late 19th century. This building features a high elevation with three storeys and four windows on the front, constructed of stone ashlar. Each bay is flanked by rusticated stone pilasters, and there is a giant order on the first and second floors. The building has a modillion eaves cornice with a dentil bed mould and a blocking course. There are stringcourses, a frieze, and a cornice above the ground floor. The windows are set in reveals with moulded archivolts and recessed panels above the first-floor windows, and they do not have glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are tall round-headed windows, along with a round-headed doorway of similar height at the left end, both featuring keystones and panelled spandrels. The entrance includes an eight-fielded panelled door topped with a semi-circular fanlight.
This building is part of a group that includes all the listed buildings in Market Place, as well as Nos 59 to 73 (odd) East Street, Conyer's Filling Station, Nos 1 to 7 (odd), Nos 2 to 8 (even), No 12 West Street, and the Church of St Peter and St Paul.
