Description
Number 10 Market Place is an 18th-century building, dating from after 1731. It is located behind Number 12 and can be accessed through an entry between Number 12 and the Bank. The building has nine storeys and an attic, featuring a five-window painted brick front. It has a brick dentil eaves cornice and sash windows, some of which retain their original glazing bars. The ground floor includes a Venetian window, likely from the later 18th century, as well as a modern square bay. The entrance is marked by a good doorcase with a segmental hood supported by foliated console brackets, and it has a semi-circular fanlight with narrow enriched pilasters. There are also two dormers on the roof. This building is part of a group that includes all the listed buildings in Market Place, as well as Numbers 59 to 73 (odd) East Street, Conyer's Filling Station, Numbers 1 to 7 (odd), Numbers 2 to 8 (even), Number 12 West Street, and the Church of St Peter and St Paul.
