Description
Nos 12 and 12A Market Place is an 18th-century building, dating from after 1731. It is a three-storey structure with a four-window front, divided into two bays by brick pilasters that have moulded bases and caps. The building features a moulded brick string course and eaves cornice. The sash windows are adorned with triple keystones. The ground floor was originally stone with a 19th-century shop front but has been altered to a brick façade with a 20th-century bank front. To the right of the front is a yard entry with a splayed Georgian bay above it. Inside, the first-floor front room has fielded panelling.
This building is part of a group that includes all the listed buildings in Market Place, as well as Nos 59 to 73 (odd) East Street, Conyer's Filling Station, Nos 1 to 7 (odd), Nos 2 to 8 (even), and No 12 West Street, along with the Church of St Peter and St Paul.
