Description
Number 9 Market Place is a two-storey corner house, likely built in the late 18th century, featuring one dormer that faces Salisbury Street. The building is constructed with typical brickwork and has a dentil eaves cornice. An interesting 18th-century shop is located under a slate penthouse, which has a coved soffit. On the Market Place side, there are four round-headed shop windows and a doorway with lead fanlights, all separated by stone pilasters. There have been some alterations on the Salisbury Street side. The building is listed as Grade II* due to its fine shop front. It is part of a group of listed buildings in Market Place, which includes Nos 59 to 73 (odd) East Street, Conyer's Filling Station, Nos 1 to 7 (odd), Nos 2 to 8 (even), No 12 West Street, and the Church of St Peter and St Paul.
