Description

Sir John Cass College, dated 1899, is a building designed in a modified late 17th century style, attributed to A W Cooksey. It features red brick and Portland stone construction with three main storeys and a basement made of glazed brown brick. The ground floor has round arched windows, while the top storey has small windows beneath a modillion cornice and blocking. The entrance is accessed by steps and is set under an enriched arch, with a balcony above and carving in the niche above that. There is a small polygonal tower on the south side, topped with a stone lantern and a lead-covered dome. The higher corner block extends into India Street and appears to have an extra storey added. The rear of the building is plain, constructed of gault and engineering brick with slight dressings, and there is a large addition to the north.
