Description

Lawford's Wharf Cottage is a pair of cottages, now used as a builder's premises, located on Lawford's Wharf by the Grand Union Canal. They date from the early 19th century and are constructed of stucco with a slated roof and brick gables. The cottages are two storeys high and each has a double-fronted design with three windows. The ground floor features a brick verandah at the east end, and the doorways have been altered. On the first floor, there are architraved four-pane sash windows with bracketed sills. The western cottage includes a central bow window on the first floor. Inside, there is a staircase with a column newel and square balusters, along with a pointed light on the back wall. Historically, John Eeles Lawford began his business as a slate merchant in Euston Road in 1840 and moved to this wharf a few years later.
