Description

Wharf Cottages are two cottages located on the south side of The Wharf in Pangbourne. They date from the early to mid 17th century, with a circa 1900 addition to the north-east and a mid 20th century addition to the east. The cottages are timber framed with curved braces and brick nogging, and they have undergone later partial brick refacing and additions. The gable ends feature exposed queen post trusses. The roof is covered with old tiles, half hipped to the west, and has a catslide over the outshot to the north. There is an end stack to the west, a ridge stack off-centre to the east, a small stack to the north, and a stack to the east in the later gabled addition. The cottages consist of three framed bays and are two storeys tall.

The south front has three 2-light and two 3-light casement windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a central 2-light casement, a 2-light segmental headed casement to the left, and a 3-light casement to the right. There are three boarded doors with gabled hoods, including one on the right with a glazed panel, positioned between the first and second windows and the second and third windows from the left, with the far right window being the 3-light casement. A later lean-to is located to the right, featuring a small casement window.
