Description

The Cross Keys is a public house built in the early to mid 18th century, with 19th-century alterations and additions at the rear. It features white painted brick and a plat band, topped with a wooden dentil eaves cornice and an old tile hipped roof, which has a 19th-century hipped range at the back. The building has an off-centre ridge stack above the entrance on the right, another ridge stack off-centre to the left, a stack at the rear, and a large central early 20th-century gable with planted black timbers and a bracket for a sign.

The structure is two storeys high and has five first-floor windows: glazing bar sashes in the first and fourth positions from the right, and 2-light casements in the second, third, and fifth positions. There is a central blank window featuring a black keystone and cross keys on a black background, flanked by pilaster strips. To the left of this window is a blank window with a lamp bracket, and there is another blank window between the fourth and fifth windows from the right.

On the ground floor, there are four windows: twin glazing bar sashes to the left, a 2-light casement to the right, a 3-light casement second from the right, and a 4-light casement third from the right, which has a segmental head over the right-hand part. There is a blocked segmental-headed door to the left and a blocked segmental-headed window between the first and second windows from the left. A 20th-century boarded door is located off-centre to the right between the second and third windows from the right, and there is a gabled brick porch with a depressed arch.
