Description

The Forge is a house dating from the early 16th century, with an addition constructed in the mid-16th century. It is timber-framed with curved braces and brick nogging, some of which is painted. The ground floor on the left has been later refaced with brick, while the left-hand end features flint facing with brick dressings. The roof is tiled, with a higher pitch over the left-hand bay. A ridge stack is located off-centre to the left, at the change of level, and there's a tile-hung dormer with a 2-light leaded casement to the right. The building has three framed bays and a single-bay wing to the rear. It is 1½ storeys high on the right and 2 storeys high on the left. A blocked 3-light window from the 16th century is visible on the first floor to the left. The right side has two ground-floor 3-light casements and a blocked window to the left. A boarded door is located beneath the stack, positioned off-centre to the left, with a 19th-century gabled hood and a 2-leaf boarded door to the left. The interior features a 16th-century fireplace and chamfered beams.
