Description
The Medical and Dental Students' Residence, originally a terrace of seven individual houses, was built around 1811-1819 and has been altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of darkened stock brick, with some later patching visible on the upper floor. The ground floor features rusticated stucco, while there is a plain band at the first floor level. The structure is four storeys high and includes basements, with two windows for each former house.
The doorways at Nos. 119 and 121 are round-arched and flanked by fluted Doric columns that support cornice-heads, complete with fanlights and panelled doors. The doorways at Nos. 123-131 also have round arches, with panelled pilaster-jambs topped by lion masks and cornice-heads, along with fanlights, some of which are patterned, and panelled doors. The doorways at Nos. 127 and 131 have been converted for use as windows. The recessed sash windows feature gauged brick flat arches, while Nos. 119 and 121 have segmental-arched windows on the ground floor. There are continuous cast-iron balconies at the first floor windows, except for No. 121. A stucco cornice band runs at the third floor level of Nos. 121-131, and the building is topped with parapets.
The property also includes attached cast-iron railings with urn finials surrounding the areas. The interiors have not been inspected.
