Description
The stone gateway is located in the grounds of University College, behind No. 17 Gordon Square. It is set in a screen wall that was part of the 1932 extensions. The gateway is dated 1668 on the base of the piers and 1669 on the impost. It features a channelled stone round-headed archway with a stone cornice. The impost blocks are foliated, giving the appearance of capitals, and there is a weathered cartouche on the keystone. A plaque on the wall at the rear indicates that this gateway was formerly the entrance to Pewterers' Hall on Lime Street, EC1, and was installed in its current location in November 1932.
