Description

This is a group of seven pairs of semi-detached villas located on the south side of Provost Road, dating from circa 1844 and designed by John Shaw. The villas are constructed of painted stucco with slated gabled roofs. The roofs have dormers, central chimney stacks, overhanging eaves with brackets to the angle returns, and plain bargeboards to the gables. The buildings are two storeys high, with attics and semi-basements. Each villa has one window plus a recessed entrance bay. The recessed doorways feature architraved entrances with pilaster jambs and part-glazed doors, approached by steps. Ground floor windows have architraved surrounds with pilasters and cornices. Villas number 3 and 4 have three-light canted bays rising from the semi-basement through the second floor and featuring pilasters. All villas have architraved three-light attic windows with a central blind window in the apex of the gable. The interiors have not been inspected.
