Description

Number 41 is a house that has been converted into offices, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with a fragmentary earlier rear wing. It is constructed of white brick and features a slate roof with a wide modillion eaves soffit, while the rear wing is timber framed.

The exterior consists of two storeys and a cellar in the front range, three storeys in the overlapping rear range, and a two-storey rear wing. The front has a five-window range with long 12-pane sashes set in plain reveals, topped by flat gauged arches. A raised brick band runs between the storeys. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a plain rectangular fanlight, framed by a wood doorcase with fluted pilasters and a cornice.

To the south side of the house, there is a garden enclosed by a high boundary wall, primarily made of kidney flint with a plain red brick coping. This wall is attached to the southeast corner of the house and extends around the corner into Cadney Lane.

Inside, no timber-framing is visible, and most features are from the early 19th century. The interior includes internal window-shutters with sunk panels, well-crafted moulded plaster cornices in the front rooms on the ground floor, and a staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. One window at the back is designed in Gothic style, featuring pointed heads and spandrels filled with coloured glass. Additionally, there is an attic fireplace with a small cast-iron grate in Gothic style.
