Description
28 Northgate Street is a house, now partly used as offices, dating from the early 19th century. It features a white brick front with red brick on the sides and rear, topped by a 20th-century pantiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has a cellar. There are two gable end chimney stacks with tall plain shafts and plain corner pilasters. The façade includes three windows arranged in a 1:1:1 pattern. The two outer windows are 16-pane sashes in flush cased frames, while the slightly projecting centre window has a narrower 12-pane sash. All windows have flat gauged arches. A central six-panel door with a plain wood surround is topped by a fanlight with radiating glazing bars and is set within an elegant Corinthian portico featuring fluted wood columns and a dentilled cornice. Inside, there is no apparent earlier core, and the ground floor features six-panel doors with sunk panels, along with a staircase that has stick balusters and moulded newels.
