Description

The St Edmund's Head Public House and its attached former stable block are located in Bury St Edmunds and date from the mid-19th century. The public house features a white brick front and red brick sides and rear, topped with a hipped slate roof. It stands two storeys high with cellars and has a three-window arrangement that is symmetrically placed, with the center window slightly projecting. The first storey has small-paned sash windows in plain reveals, while the ground storey features 3-light sashes with diminished side lights and clear glass. A central six-panelled door with a semicircular fanlight is set within a brick arched recess, with the inner arch plastered.

To the north is the two-storey stable range, constructed from the same materials as the main building, which is connected by a wall that includes a segmental-arched carriage entrance. Originally designed to accommodate 24 horses with sleeping quarters above, the stable block has now been fully converted into living accommodation. It features one tripartite small-paned sash window on the west front and a five-window range arranged three to two along the south side. The entire complex is situated on the east side of Pea Porridge Green.
