Description

Number 71 is a house that has been converted into an office. It dates back to the early 17th century and was internally remodeled around 1700. The building features a rendered brick exterior with a gabled roof covered in pantiles. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, with a basement and attic, comprising a one-bay range.

The front entrance is a left-hand two-panel door topped with a rectangular overlight, and it is sheltered by a full-width lean-to canopy supported by two decorative, moulded brackets featuring Tudor roses. The entrance leads to paired plate-glass sash windows. The first and second floors have canted bays with sash windows that include margin bars. Above these, there is a gable adorned with scalloped barge-boards, pierced with quatrefoils, and flanked by side finials and a central pendant.

On the right side of the building, there is a 20th-century six-panel door with side and overlights, all set beneath paired lintels that feature three stepped voussoirs. At the rear, the gable of an earlier adjoining property is truncated above the current building.

Inside, the basement is accessed by steps from the pavement. There is a central winder staircase with stick balusters and column newels. A rear niche cupboard has curved shelves, and the front second-floor features a bolection-moulded fireplace, while the rear has a cast-iron range with pointed-arched panels. The interior also includes two-panel doors and pegged purlins.

In front of the building, the area is flagged with pennant stone and is enclosed by wrought-iron railings, which include a two-leaf gate in the middle.
