Description
This is a terrace of three houses, at 26, 27 and 28 Old Market Street, Bristol, built around 1840 and restored in approximately 1985. The buildings are constructed of limestone ashlar with stone and brick party wall stacks, and have a pantile mansard roof. They follow a double-depth plan and are in a late Georgian style.
Each house has three storeys and an attic, with a single window to each front. The ground floor is plain, with a plat band above. Pilasters are positioned at the party walls, rising to impost, frieze, cornice and parapets, with coped party walls above. Semicircular-arched doorways are located to the left of Nos. 27 and 28, and to the right of No. 26; each has keys and imposts, a six-panel door, and a five-pane timber fanlight. The tripartite ground-floor windows have six-over-six-pane sashes flanked by two-over-two-pane sashes. The first floor has fluted consoles to the cornices, while the second floor has plain openings with six-over-six-pane sashes. Lead-clad dormers are topped with cambered heads and feature three-over-three-pane sashes. The interior was not inspected during listing. Shop fronts on Nos. 26 and 27 were removed, and windows replaced to match No. 28, which retains the original configuration, around 1985.
