Description

A pair of churchyard monuments located in the Great Churchyard of Bury St Edmunds. The first monument, MON 182, is a tombstone with head and footstones made of Ketton stone, dating from 1800. It commemorates Mary Woodroffe (died 1806), John Woodroffe (died 1800), and Stephen Woodroffe (died 1832). The headstone features a large cherub, an urn with drapes, a scythe, and an hourglass. The second monument, MON 189, also consists of a head and footstone made of Ketton stone, dating from 1801. It is dedicated to William Steele (died 1801) and Jane Wade (died 1824), with the headstone depicting a scene representing the sacrificing of Isaac.
