Description

A pair of churchyard monuments located in Bury St Edmunds. The first monument, MON 211, is a tombstone with a square base, dating from 1840. It commemorates members of a local family of stonemasons: Alice Anderson (died 1847), Sophia de Carle (died 1840), Mary, wife of Benjamin de Carle (died 1848), another Mary, wife of Benjamin de Carle (died 1870), and Benjamin de Carle (died 1864). The second monument, MON 215, is a coffin stone with round ends, created in 1842 by W.H. Steggles from Ketton stone. It honors Maria Holden (died 1842) and Mary Smith (died 1850).
