Description
A group of four churchyard monuments located in the Great Churchyard of Bury St Edmunds.
MON 281 is a coffin tomb with a headstone and footstone, dated 1799, made from Ketton stone, dedicated to Susannah Ely. The headstone features a winged angel head and foliage.
MON 282 is another coffin tomb with a headstone and footstone, dated 1801, also made from Ketton stone, dedicated to Edward Ely. Its headstone displays an urn in an oval above palm branches, with an egg-shell festoon.
MON 303 is a coffin stone from 1847, made of Portland stone, dedicated to John Chatten. It is a small tombstone for a 2-year-old child.
MON 304 is a box tomb from 1833, commemorating several members of the Portway family: John Portway (1895), William Portway (1844), Albert Portway (1880), Harry (son of George and Sarah, 1833), George Portway (1868), Sarah (his wife, 1881), and Ellen (his daughter, 1911).
