Description

There are two churchyard monuments located in the Great Churchyard of Bury St Edmunds. The first monument, MON 171, is a coffin tomb with head and footstones, dating from 1787 and made of Ketton stone. It is dedicated to E.S. and features a very worn headstone with a winged angel head. The second monument, MON 191, is a chest tomb from 1815, constructed of Portland stone. It commemorates several individuals: JOSHUA SMITH (1815), HARRIET, CATHERINE-HANNAH-ANN-MARY (1805), HARRIET-HANNAH (date unknown), EDWARD HENRY (1810), JOHN SMITH (1830), ANN MARTHA (his wife), and ROBERT SMITH (1833).
