Description
Alley Cottage and The Cottage are a pair of 18th-century cottages located on Old Road in Lackford. They are single-storey buildings with attics and feature gabled dormers. The cottages are timber-framed and were partially encased in gault brick and flint during the mid-19th century. The west end has been extended, and the original thatched roof has been replaced with asbestos slates. There is a red brick chimney stack in the center of the roof, which has a clasped side-purlin construction. One of the cottages has a 19th-century wrought iron small pane casement window, while the other windows are 20th-century casements. In the front garden, there is a well-head with a pulley and canopy, although it is not considered to be of special interest.
