Description
Brook Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 16th century, with significant extensions made in the mid-17th century and again in the early 19th century. The building has two storeys and attics, topped with a plain clay tiled roof. The southern section, added in the early 19th century, features a double-pile plan, constructed of red brick with three bays of sash windows and a central panelled entrance door. This section has two storeys and a hipped slated roof, along with a later 19th-century red brick porch.
The core of the farmhouse from the 16th century has exposed timber framing on the interior, showcasing complex rib-mouldings on the first-floor joists and rib-moulded beams. In the 17th century, a large axial chimney stack and a parlour were added to the east end, along with a cross-wing to the west end. The roof of the main range includes large principal rafters and joggled butt purlins. There have been various alterations at the rear in the 19th century, also in red brick.
