Description
Mitchells Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the early 16th century with extensions from the early 17th century. It has one storey and attics, and is constructed of timber framing with plaster. The roof is thatched and features gabled casement dormers. There are central and gable chimneys made of red brick from the 17th century. Most of the windows are 19th-century casements. The entrance has a 19th-century six-panelled door, along with another boarded door that is sheltered by a gabled 20th-century porch.
At the right end of the house is an altered two-bay open hall from the early 16th century, which includes a central arch-braced cambered tie-beam and signs of unglazed hall windows, although there was no open hearth. A first floor was added in the mid-16th century, which was largely replaced in the 18th or 19th century, and the roof at this end was renewed in pine. An extension with two cells was added to the left in the early 17th century, featuring a lobby entrance next to the hall chimney. The left end has a chimney with a typical 17th-century parlour fireplace.
