Description

College House is a former farmhouse dating from around 1600. It is two storeys high with attics in the main range and two storeys at the rear, featuring a three-cell lobby-entrance plan and a later service wing that creates a T-shaped layout. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with plain tiled roofs and plain bargeboards. A large, plain chimney stack with four chimney pots is located internally. The house has early 19th-century casement windows in the style of the 17th century, with two-light and four-light designs that include mullion-and-transom features and small ovolo mouldings. There are two gabled dormers with plain bargeboards and casement windows. The entrance features a slightly recessed, partly glazed door with plain jambs, a bolection-moulded frieze, and a flat pediment. On the west side, a small single-storey lean-to with a pantiled roof contains the current entry. Inside, the framing is exposed, showcasing ovolo-moulded main beams in both main ground-storey rooms, with plain joists also visible to the west of the stack. The service area at the west end of the front range has been remodelled, but the housings for one diamond-mullioned window can still be seen. The rear range includes reused and replacement timbers. Surrounding the front garden and adjoining the south-west corner of the house is an early 19th-century low red brick wall with rounded copings and a dentil cornice.
