Description
Evergreen Hall is a house dating from the early 17th century. It has one-and-a-half storeys and features a three-cell lobby-entrance plan. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof. The ground floor has three plain three-light 20th-century casement windows, and there are two gabled dormers. A modern enclosed gabled porch is also present. Inside, there is an internal chimney stack with a saw-tooth shaft, and the timber framing is exposed in the walls and ceilings. The framing is of good quality, with rectangular doorheads and flat-set joists. The house includes open fireplaces with timber lintels, and in the north gable wall, there is a blocked original three-light window with ovolo-moulded mullions. An innovative use of a curved timber split creates two matching tie-beams, allowing for adequate upper headroom for the two trusses that enclose the chimney stack. The roof was renewed in the 18th century, featuring clasped side purlins and a ridge-piece.
