Description

The Steam Mill is a former steam mill, now operating electrically, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It stands three storeys high and is positioned sideways to the road. The structure is timber-framed, with parts rendered and mainly covered in weatherboarding, topped with slate roofs. The mill consists of two distinct but connected sections. The building closest to the road is believed to have originally served as a maltings and granary, featuring remnants of 18th-century timber-framing, though it has since been modernised. Attached to the east side is a 19th-century lean-to extension made of flint rubble, which has been raised with a weatherboarded top. To the north of this building is the main mill structure, which retains the framing of its outer walls and appears to have been extended. It features a large lucam that is off-centre, which is boarded and supported by ornamental cast metal brackets. The mill also has various small-paned fixed or casement windows, and there is an upper door located below the lucam.
