Description
Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 15th century, with extensions from the late 18th to early 19th century. It has a basic two-cell plan and now features a T-shaped form, with parts that are two storeys and parts that are one-and-a-half storeys. The building is timber framed and rendered, with old roughcast and a thatched roof.
The main range has a half-hipped roof to the south and was originally half-hipped at both ends, while the cross-wing is gabled. An internal chimney stack with a plain shaft is positioned near the south end of the front. The farmhouse has three-light casement windows with a single bar on both ranges, and there is one gabled dormer with a plain tiled roof. At the south end, there is an old three-light upper casement window featuring square-leaded panes and crown glass.
Entry to the farmhouse is through the angle between the two ranges, which has a small thatched porch over it, leading into a passageway that forms part of one bay of the two-bay hall. This hall was originally open to the roof but now has a plain inserted beam-and-joist ceiling. The roof features plain clasped purlins and is smoke-blackened over the former hall area. A service-end partition is visible from the first floor, with the inserted chimney stack against it.
