1/64 Village Farm

  • II

Farmhouse. Early C17. Timber-framed and plastered with panels of comb- pargetting; thatched roof. 2 storeys, with attic to part; basic 3-cell lobby- entrance plan, with a 2-storey C18 wing extending on the east, and a single- storey lean-to with pantiled roof along part of the east side. The northern bay of the main range is also an C18 addition. 2 internal chimney-stacks, one with 3 detached square shafts. Various late C19 3-light and 2-light casement windows. A fully-enclosed late C19 porch in white brick with gabled fishscale slate roof and corbelled eaves; boarded door in an arched surround. Plain, widely-spaced studding exposed inside; the central room has an exposed timber ceiling with chamfered main beam and unchamfered joists set flat; the parlour at the south end has ovolo-moulding on the main beam; the chimney-stack to the kitchen appears to be original, with a large timber lintel. Prior to the C18 addition on the north end this would have been an external stack. The roof has one row of clasped purlins, principals, and a long narrow ridge.
