Description
Village Farm is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure with plastered panels of comb-pargetting and a thatched roof. The building has two storeys and an attic in part, following a basic three-cell lobby-entrance plan. An 18th-century wing extends to the east, along with a single-storey lean-to that has a pantiled roof on part of the east side. The northern bay of the main range is also an 18th-century addition.
Inside, there are two internal chimney-stacks, one of which has three detached square shafts. The farmhouse has various late 19th-century casement windows, including three-light and two-light designs. A fully-enclosed late 19th-century porch made of white brick features a gabled fishscale slate roof and corbelled eaves, with a boarded door in an arched surround.
The interior displays plain, widely-spaced studding, with the central room showcasing an exposed timber ceiling that has a chamfered main beam and unchamfered joists set flat. The parlour at the south end features ovolo-moulding on the main beam. The chimney-stack in the kitchen appears to be original, featuring a large timber lintel, and prior to the 18th-century addition on the north end, this would have been an external stack. The roof structure includes one row of clasped purlins, principals, and a long narrow ridge.
