Description
Wood Hall is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It features a timber frame that is rendered and has a pantiled roof. The building has a three-cell form, with two storeys and an attic. There are three windows, each with four-light mullion and transom casements that do not have glazing bars. Smaller cross windows above each doorway are mid-20th century additions. The farmhouse has two doorways located in lobby and cross-entry positions, both with panelled doors and mid-20th century gabled open-fronted porches. The stack has a square shaft made of narrow brick, and there is an external stack against the left gable end. The right gable has a jettied design. At the rear, there are two-storey additions with shallow-pitched roofs, and the main range features two late 19th century sash windows with coloured margin glazing.
Inside, the structure has been largely Victorianised, concealing much of the original framework. The hall contains chamfered joists set flat, while on-edge joists are found at the service end. There is a late 19th century straight stair in the lower bay of the hall, as well as an original newel attic stair. The roof has two rows of butt purlins and two-way wind bracing on the upper row. There is evidence of at least two dormers on the front slope, and remains of a medieval moat can also be found on the property.
