Description
No. 178 Wickham Road is a house that was later divided into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and was extended and altered in the 19th century. The building has a timber frame that is plastered with incisions to resemble ashlar and features a thatched roof. Originally, it likely had a lobby entry plan with two cells. The house is one storey with an attic.
To the right of the center, there is a boarded door next to a small three-light casement window with part metal frame and glazing bars, both of which have hoodboards. On the left side, a lean-to made of clay lump and pantiles projects forward, featuring a glazing bar light in its return. The house has a central axial ridge stack.
The left gable end has an entrance towards the rear with a recessed boarded door and a similar casement window with hoodboards, as well as a pentice board and an attic two-light casement. The right gable end has a pentice board and two-light casements with exposed purlins. At the rear left, there is a lean-to with a two-light casement on its return and a corrugated sheet roof. The rear right has continuous thatch over a lean-to outshut. The interior has not been inspected.
