Description
This is a barn located to the southwest of Barningham Park, dating from the early 18th century. It is timber-framed and stands on a high brick plinth, with parts covered in old render and weatherboarding, while the majority is clad in corrugated iron sheeting. The roof is covered in corrugated asbestos, which replaced earlier thatch.
The barn features a frame consisting of six long bays, with a pair of intermediate main posts in each bay that do not support tiebeams. The outer walls are reinforced with substantial primary braces and bisected studs, and there is no middle rail. The main posts of the trusses have long jowled heads, flat tie beams, and long straight braces.
On the east side, there is a timber-framed lean-to extension, which has the date 1800 carved into one of its posts. The roof is structured in twelve short bays, with every two bays corresponding to one bay of the frame. It includes two rows of slightly stepped butt purlins, straight collars, and principal rafters set on edge, along with a ridge-piece. The original cart entries can be found in the second and fifth bays.
