Description
Shepherd's Cottage is a house that was formerly divided into two cottages, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is one-and-a-half storeys tall and has a two-cell layout. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof that is hipped at both ends. At the north end, there is a rear wing that extends to form an L shape. A lean-to extension on the south end follows the downward slope of the main roof, and there is an additional single-storey lean-to along the west side. The main house features an internal chimney stack with a saw-tooth shaft made of small red bricks, small-paned 20th-century casement windows, and two eyebrow dormers. The framing is lightweight, with primary braces and bisected studs, joists set on edge, covered rafters, straight collars, and clasped purlins.
