Description

Vine Cottage is a house that has been divided into two cottages. It dates from the 17th century and features one-and-a-half storeys with a three-cell plan. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a thatched roof. There is an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft and a single-storey lean-to along the rear wall. The cottage has 2-light small-paned casement windows and one gabled dormer with fluted bargeboards. Inside, the two main ground-storey rooms have main beams with scroll-stops, decorated with jewel and small groove, and the joists are set on edge. The eastern service bay lacks a main beam and has poorer joists, but it does not appear to be an addition. The roof is ceiled off at collar level, with no principal rafters visible, and the side purlins can be seen in the gable ends.
